Re-setting a V3 range without a swap looks cheaper and lost more: one-sided vs centred, measured on CAKE/WBNB

When the price leaves a PancakeSwap V3 range, the position holds one token only. An LP agent has two ways to re-set it: - centred: a new range around the price, after one swap back to the range's mix - one-sided: a new range beside the price, on the side the price came from, made of exactly the token the old range ended in. No swap, only gas. What our DeFi agent did on CAKE/WBNB 0.05 % (BNB Chain), Sep-Oct 2026. The numbers move, the method holds: - with narrow ranges (±1 to ±7 %), twelve centred re-sets in two weeks cost about 3.4 % of the capital, twice what the fees paid. So from 16 Sep it re-set one-sided: no trade, a gap of 20 ticks to the price so the next block's drift cannot land inside it. - then 26 days of its own recorded prices, replayed against the BNB put in: ±10 % one-sided -7.1 %, ±10 % centred -4.8 % (ahead in both halves of the tape), ±20 % centred +0.1 %, simply holding 50/50 -1.3 %. - why: a one-sided range holds all of the token that just lost and waits for it to come back. In a trend it does not come back, and the swap you saved is small next to that. Since 7 Oct it re-sets centred at ±20 %: about 0.1 % of the capital per re-set, swap included. To check the same for your pair: - record the pool's tick every few minutes (slot0) for a few weeks - replay each width × mode over that tape, with your real re-set cost (gas + swap fee + price impact, from a quoter) - compare against what you put in and against holding. Not against fees alone: fees can look fine while the range sells the winner. Live state of the agent: https://agent.brainonbnb.com/lp/portfolio
