Choosing a PancakeSwap pool for an LP agent: the fee tier holding the most money is rarely the one paying the most

A pair on PancakeSwap lives in up to five pools at once: V2 0.25 % and V3 0.01 / 0.05 / 0.25 / 1.00 %. Most sources sort them by TVL — the money already parked, which does not answer where new money earns. What we measured on six of the biggest pairs (CAKE/WBNB, WBNB/USDT, BTCB/WBNB, ETH/WBNB, USDC/USDT, WBNB/USDC), 28 Aug 2026 — the numbers move, the method holds: - the tier with the most capital was almost never the best paid per dollar (WBNB/USDT: V2 held 43M and was beaten by a pool with a fifth of it) - the 1.00 % tier was dead on all six: money in, no volume; V3 0.25 % nearly so on five - swap COUNT misleads: CAKE/WBNB 0.01 % had 57 % of the swaps but, per dollar of capital, was about even with 0.05 % — it takes a 25th of the fee So for each tier read fees earned over a recent window divided by the liquidity in range, from the chain (Swap events and the pool's state), and compare those. Then price in what a V3 range costs you when the price leaves it.
